Indian Restaurants Near Camden: Where to Eat After the Market

Camden Is Exhausting, in the Best Way
A day in Camden is a lot of walking, a lot of noise and a lot of standing up. The market food is part of the appeal, but by the evening most people want a table, a chair and someone to bring things to them.
The high street has plenty of options and they get very busy very quickly. Walking ten or fifteen minutes south changes the picture considerably.
How Far South?
Masakali London is on Stanhope Street in NW1, about a twenty-minute walk from Camden Town station straight down Camden High Street and Hampstead Road. If you would rather not walk the whole way, take the Northern line one stop to Mornington Crescent and it is twelve minutes on foot from there. Buses run the same route down Hampstead Road.
It is far enough south to be noticeably quieter than the high street, and close enough that the walk is part of the evening rather than a trek.
Before a Gig
Camden's venues are a large part of why people come. The Roundhouse, KOKO, the Electric Ballroom and the Jazz Café are all within reach, and eating properly beforehand is a better plan than a queue outside the venue at half seven.
Give the restaurant your doors time when you book. Starters and a tandoor platter to share works well when you are on a clock — it arrives quickly, it feeds a table, and nobody is left waiting on a slow main.
What to Order for a Group
Camden nights tend to be group nights, so order across the table.
- A tandoor sharing platter to start, which covers most preferences at once
- One or two curries at different spice levels rather than four of the same
- A biryani between two, which is more substantial than it looks
- Vegetarian and vegan dishes that stand on their own, so nobody is left with a side order
- Cocktails from the bar while you decide
